Vista can not see XP
Network Map in Windows Vista does not display computers that are running Windows XP

Here is the solution for this problem

Quote:To resolve this problem, install the update that is described in this section. The update installs the LLTD Responder component on Windows XP-based computers.

Network map?

I'm such a newbie but could this be why my vista laptop couldn't find connect to my desktop which uses xp?

Oh well I'll give it a check, I've been dying to config the bluetooth adapter to allow internet access but the internet never feeds through and it's darn annoying. lol

RE: Vista can not see XP
I must say I did not try that update...
Everything worked for me after few tryouts. It's important to set identical workgroup name on both computers. And shared folders on both computers.
And turning off "simple file sharing" helps alot

Thanks for the information buddy.

I can't get my head around it, originally I used a tutorial which helped me to setup the internet to my wife laptop. Mine's just to funny under vista Bomb

Cheers again.

RE: Vista can not see XP
hmm, you are trying to connect two PC's via bluetooth? I heard about connecting mobile phone with pc, but never connecting two PC's. I mean, bluetooth is damn slow.
Why don't you use wireless connection instead?

That's the route I might take, although I haven't considered buying a router as of yet.

I'm currently using a laptop with bluetooth pan networking (internet connection). It's pretty fast, I haven't noticed any difference in speeds compared to my desktop Tong

Cheers buddy,

RE: Vista can not see XP
hmm, I never tried that.

I use bluetooth to connect mobile phone to my PC. It takes forever to transfer few songs (mp3) to my PC, or vice versa.
But we are probably talking about different bluetooth devices.
